Roulette is one of the most recognisable casino games. Before coming up with your very own Roulette strategy, the novice player must get familiar with some basic roulette terminology.

Black – A bet on all the black numbers.

Column Bet – A bet on one of the three columns of numbers.

Corner Bet – A bet on four numbers that are adjacent to each other (such as 4, 5, 7 and 8), also called a Square Bet.

Croupier – The employee who operates the wheel and puts the ball in play.

Dozens Bet – A bet on 1 through 12, 13 through 24, or 25 through 36.

Even Bet – A bet on the even numbers on the wheel, excluding 0 and 00. (2, 4, 6, etc.)

Green Numbers – The zero and double zero on a wheel. You cannot bet on this colour.

High or Low – A bet on low (1 to 18) or high (19 through 36).

Line Bet – A bet on any six adjoining numbers.

Odd – A bet on all the odd numbers on the wheel (1, 3, 5, etc.)

Outside Bet – The betting area on the roulette table outside of the numbers. These include dozens, columns, black/red, odd/even, 1 to 18, and 19 to 36.

Red – A bet on all the red numbers.

Run - A series of like results, such as three black or five even.

Single number - A bet on any one number.

Six-line Bet - A six-number bet.

Slots - The sections of the wheel which hold the numbers.

Special Line Bet – A bet on the first five numbers; 00, 0, 1, 2 and 3.

Split Bet - A bet on any two adjacent numbers.

Straight Bet – A bet on a single number.

Street Bet – A bet on any three numbers in a line.

Wheel Checks - unmarked chips. These are only used on the roulette tables.

Zero / Double Zero - A bet on the 0 (or 00) number on the wheel.
