Poker PokerStars clobbered the Guinness world record concerning the biggest online poker tournament on December 28, 2008. There were 35,000 competitors in the no-limit hold’em tournament with a buy-in of $11.

Player stan34powa won $30,000 by battling until the end. The record payout was $500,000 paid to 8,750 poker players. It was an action packed 9 ½ hours. They broke their previous record of 20,000 players competing in their Sunday Hundred Grand tournament on July 27, 2007. They beat the record of 26,517 players for the world’s largest online poker tournament.

Plus, they broke the record of online spectators garnering 250,000 viewers. And another record smashed as 5,836 players participated in the Sunday Warm-Up tournament. Eight hundred and fifty-five players won part of the 1.5 million in the warm-up prize pool. Hr_Herman won $7,067.20 from the Warm-Up. lp_SakiSaki won $1,378.80 in the Sunday Million tournament.
